Apple has called another super-secret press briefing for Sept. 12, likely to unveil a new lineup of devices in the iPod line. The date coincides with the start of the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Internet convention. Expected is a new and improved video iPod that puts video front-and-center, rather than the afterthought it is in existing video iPod players. The invite to the press is titled "It's Showtime."
More news is also surfacing about the iPhone [1] mobile phone/iPod device as well. American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu reports that Apple is indeed developing such a device and predicts that the company would likely sell about 10 million phones. While that represents only about 1 percent of the global handset market, the move will serve to "disrupt" the mobile industry just as it has the music industry. It is very unlikely, however, that we'll see the device at the Sept. 12 briefing.
