InMobi: Tablet ad impressions growing twice as fast as smartphones

Tablet ad impressions across the InMobi mobile advertising network have increased 88 percent over the last six months and are now growing nearly twice as fast as smartphone impressions, the firm reports.

Although Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad continues to drive the overwhelming majority of tablet impressions on InMobi's North American network, devices running Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android are making inroads. The iPad generated 70.8 percent of InMobi impressions during the first quarter of 2012, down 10.8 percentage points quarter-over-quarter, while Android grew 10.7 percentage points from 18.2 percent to 28.9 percent.

Amazon's Kindle Fire yielded 9.2 percent of InMobi's first-quarter tablet impressions, its first full quarter of commercial availability, and is now the leading Android tablet on the InMobi platform. The Android-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 jumped from 2.7 percent of impressions in the fourth quarter of 2011 to 5.2 percent in the first three months of 2012, and now ranks third overall behind the iPad and Kindle Fire.

"Richer web browsing experiences are achieved from the larger screen sizes and the reduced cost of tablet ownership is increasing their popularity," said InMobi Vice President and Managing Director Anne Frisbie.

InMobi now delivers 93.4 billion mobile ad impressions per month across 165 international markets.
