MyCorner - Top Mobile Applications 2007

MyCorner

Company: NEXAGE [1]
Why It's a Top App: YouTube may have pioneered the user-generated content revolution online, but its premium mobile incarnation, delivered via Verizon Wireless, proved an unmitigated disaster, with video clips "selected and approved by the companies...[to have] broadest appeal and highest entertainment value" (read: censored and sanitized) and a user interface charitably described as awkward. Far closer to the original YouTube in spirit and in scope is the free mobile UGC service MyCorner. Powered by parent company NEXAGE's white-label mobile video solution PhoneCast and supported by advertising supplied by mobile ad firm Third Screen Media, the MyCorner service requires no client download and works on most handsets--users may upload, share and comment on videos from their phones as well as upload content from PCs. What separates MyCorner from rival services is its intuitive user interface, its screen layout (clean and spacious, with ample room for multiple video categories, spotlighted content and ads) and its content, an appealing mix of amateur UGC contributions and branded downloads like movie trailers from Google and celebrity clips from TotalMass. It's must-see TV.
