Ticketing behemoth Ticketmaster announced the launch of MobileTicket, a new wireless delivery service that will debut in conjunction with the V Festival Australia in 2008. According to Ticketmaster, which developed the system in tandem with mobile coupon solutions provider Mobiqa, Virgin Mobile customers attending V Festivals in Sydney, The Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth may choose to receive their tickets via mobile device--MobileTicket will generate a 2D unique barcode for mailing within 24 hours of purchase. A resend facility is also available should customers accidentally delete their MobileTicket--lost or stolen passes may be canceled and replaced by invalidating the old barcode and issuing new tickets. Festival staffers will be given handheld scanners optimized to read attendees' mobile handset display screens.
