Global news agency the Associated Press announced the launch of the Mobile News Network, a new service created to deliver headlines, information, photos and video to smartphones. According to the AP, the Mobile News Network heralds its Digital Cooperative program's first product release, and offers consumers a single point of access to news from hundreds of local publishers. The service also promises a national platform for local advertisers. The AP will trial the Mobile News Network in conjunction with a limited number of Digital Cooperative members, with a full-scale launch expected this summer. The AP adds it is collaborating with mobile handset makers and operators to develop a superior user interface optimized for the wireless platform.
