Verizon Wireless introduced Usage Controls, an online service enabling subscribers to more effectively manage their mobile phone usage and implement controls on multiple-line account used by family members. The service--which expands on Verizon's existing Parental Controls and mobile content rating and filtering efforts--promises consumers the tools to monitor voice and data usage levels and sidestep overages or unexpected charges. Controls include thresholds for voice minutes, limits on text, photo and video messaging, and restrictions on voice and data use according to time of day. Usage Controls also enables parents to supervise their child's wireless experience, monitoring their voice and data consumption as well as managing the content they view. In addition, the complementary Chaperone 2.0 solution features enhancements like Family SMS Messaging and integration with the VZ Navigator service, which allows parents to receive turn-by-turn directions to their child's location. Usage Controls is available for a $4.99 monthly subscription for each line; Chaperone 2.0 is an additional $9.99 per line per month.
