WebMD debuts free iPhone app for physicians

Medical information provider WebMD Health Corp. announced [1]the launch of Medscape Mobile, a free iPhone and iPod touch application promising physicians on-demand access to healthcare data. According to WebMD, Medscape Mobile includes comprehensive drug information on more than 6,000 generic and brand-name drugs, herbals, supplements and antidotes, a drug interaction checker, clinical reference tools, medical news and continuing medical education alongside specialty-specific news from the firm's professional news team. In addition, the WebMD Health Directory features contact information for over 400,000 physicians, 57,000 pharmacies and 6,000 hospitals.

WebMD notes that its existing free content and applications generate more than 1.5 million physician visits each months, and adds it will soon expand Medscape Mobile to additional platforms, including BlackBerry smartphones.
