Just one day after announcing [1] the creation of its new CBS Mobile division, CBS further expanded its wireless efforts with the launch of three new ad-supported mobile websites. The CBS Mobile Store will feature downloadable games, wallpapers and voice tones culled from current primetime hits like the "CSI" franchise and "Survivor" as well as enduring favorites including "Star Trek" and "The Brady Bunch." The site will also offer what CBS calls "live wallpapers," essentially scenes from reality shows that may be downloaded as still images within hours of broadcast. Most promising is "Dave TV," which delivers highlights from the previous night's "Late Show with David Letterman" via daily mobile alerts.
CBS Mobile also introduced WAP sites based on the network's CBS SportsLine and CBS News properties. The SportsLine mobile website features real-time scores and fantasy sports services, while the news site offers stories and images of breaking news events in near real-time. "The CBS Mobile Store and WAP sites represent the most innovative sites of their kind," said newly-appointed CBS Mobile executive VP Cyriac Roeding in a prepared statement. "The content is designed and made specifically for mobile, but at the same time it offers a seamless link to our top television shows. We call this 'platforming content' to mobile."
