French media conglomerate Vivendi is launching a new unit, Vivendi Mobile Entertainment, to develop a premium multimedia portal that will compete with sites like YouTube and MySpace. Details are presently scarce, but business daily Les Echos reports the multimedia site will offer music, video, films and games from Vivendi and its partners. The portal will debut in France in the fall of 2007, followed by rollouts in other European nations.
