Verizon Wireless announced a partnership with mobile payment service provider Obopay to launch what the companies are touting as the first mobile payment offering from a major U.S. operator. Obopay's service enables users to receive, send and spend money via mobile handset, promising immediate access to mobile funds with an Obopay prepaid MasterCard for use at any ATM or retail outlet. Users may also check account balances, collect debts from other mobile users and view transaction histories. Obopay will initially operate on Verizon handsets as a BREW application available for download from the carrier's Get It Now online catalog as well as its Mobile Web 2.0 service.
