International mobile data revenues from non-SMS rose to $11.3 billion in the first quarter of 2007, compared to $8.1 billion in Q1 of 2006, according to a new report from business intelligence firm Informa Telecoms & Media. While close to one third of all mobile data revenues now derive from services other than SMS, Informa said global SMS traffic also increased roughly 50 percent year-on-year to more than 620 billion messages in the first quarter, with revenues up 23% over the same period. Total data revenues reached $34.3 billion in Q1, their highest total ever. Informa credits the growth to lower SMS tariffs and the increased availability of bundled packages.
