Vendor giant Alcatel-Lucent and mobile multimedia devices and software supplier Quantum SpA announced an agreement to collaborate on DVB-SH-based mobile TV solutions. The firms said they will cooperate on the development of both terrestrial and hybrid terrestrial/satellite mobile broadcast technologies, targeting access via portable media players and automotive digital set-top boxes. In a statement, Alca-Lu's chairman of mobile broadcast activities Olivier Coste cited in-car multimedia entertainment, portable devices with larger screens and navigation services are critical drivers behind mass-market mobile TV adoption. In late April, direct broadcast satellite service provider DISH Network [1] announced it will launch a DVB-SH mobile broadcast trial in the U.S., with Alcatel Lucent providing the equipment, test tools and training.
