Direct broadcast satellite service provider DISH Network said it is seeking partners to launch a mobile TV service following its unexpected entrance and win in the Federal Communications Commission's March 700 Mhz spectrum auction [1]. DISH--which announced in late April it will initiate a DVB-SH [2] mobile broadcast trial in the U.S., with vendor giant Alcatel Lucent providing equipment, test tools and training--said during its first-quarter conference call Tuesday that it will explore different broadcast platforms and business models before fully committing to mobile TV. "We think [the spectrum is] a strategic asset that will allow us to have broad discussion with a number of parties," said DISH Network vice chairman Carl Vogel. "Overall, our intent is to certainly bring in partners … Our principal interest in this is to provide some mobility and portability options that dovetail nicely with both our DISH customer base, as well as our Sling product."
