AT&T announced it will remain the exclusive U.S. operator provider of the iPhone 3G, available July 11 in more than 2,200 company-owned retail stores and kiosks at a starting price of $199 with a two-year contract. What is different this time around: The terms of Apple and AT&T's revenue sharing deal. AT&T said it will no longer share a portion of monthly service revenues with Apple. Instead, carrier partners will now pay Apple an unspecified subsidy for each iPhone sold per traditional manufacturer/carrier arrangements. In addition, AT&T will price unlimited iPhone 3G data plans for consumers at $30 per month, with voice plans now beginning at $39.99 per month--unlimited data plans for enterprise users will be available at $45 per month. According to AT&T, iPhone subscriber ARPU nearly doubles the average of the operator's overall subscriber base--nevertheless, the company says that even as recurring revenue streams build without any further revenue sharing required, the initiative will not turn accretive until 2010.
