Vendor giant Alcatel-Lucent announced the launch of the first commercial trial spotlighting the Open Mobile Alliance's new BCAST Smartcard Profile mobile TV content protection standard, a SIM-based service protection solution that promises content providers the latitude to offer more flexible mobile TV subscription models incorporating services like pay-per-view, pay-per-time and recorded content. Singapore-based operator MobileOne and media firm MediaCorp are spearheading the DVB-H platform trial, which began earlier this month. The trial is based on Alca-Lu's Mobile Interactive TV solution. Samsung will supply handsets for the program, with Smartcard Profile-compliant SIM cards courtesy of Gemalto.
