European telecoms giant Vodafone and MTV Networks announced the launch of Vodafone Fast-track, a new talent competition promising unsigned musicians their chance at recording a single and video for subsequent mobile and television distribution. Over the next four weeks, unsigned artists in 26 international markets may upload their best original track, photos and biography to the Vodafone Soundbites website--beginning Jan. 7, the MTV community will vote for their favorites, whittling the pool of entries to a list of 20 finalists. A panel of music industry experts will select the grand prize winner, who will earn the opportunity to enter the studio to record a single and video produced by MTV. The cable channel will also air the clip during commercial airtime in 29 markets, while Vodafone will distribute the single via mobile in 18 European markets as well as Australia and New Zealand. Vodafone and MTV will support the Fast-track competition by launching a multi-platform marketing campaign.
