AT&T Navigator topped all other AT&T applications in terms of new sales between January and March, the operator reports. While AT&T did not specify exact application download totals for the first quarter, the carrier credited growing consumer interest in mobile apps and games as a key contributor to the 39 percent wireless data revenue growth it reported in its Q1 earnings, released [1] in late April. According to AT&T, the Navigator app--which supplies audible and visual turn-by-turn driving directions as well as a host of related GPS-based features including a national business finder and lowest-price fuel finder--has ranked among the top 10 best performing apps each quarter since its launch a year ago. The rest of Q1's top apps, in descending order: AT&T Mobile TV, Napster Mobile, XM Radio Mobile, MobiTV, WikiMobile, Shazam, Make-UR-Tones, My-Cast Weather and MobiVJ.
In addition, AT&T named the top 10 performing games for the first quarter, and perennial bestseller Tetris again tops the list. The remainder of the list, in descending order: Bejeweled, Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Jewel Quest II, Diner Dash, The Oregon Trail, Midnight Pool 2 and Platinum Sudoku.
Last month, AT&T announced [2] the launch of AT&T Apps Beta, a new initiative enabling mobile developers to trial their applications with the operator's subscribers prior to retail availability. According to AT&T, the program offers developers direct access to consumer feedback like user ratings, feature suggestions and bugs--developers may also turn to AT&T Apps Beta to generate targeted user input on applications already available for download. AT&T adds that consumer feedback yielded by the AT&T Apps Beta program will help improve its applications portfolio and inform future go-to-market activities for applications.
