The Weather Channel named former AOL Media Networks president Michael J. Kelly its new president and CEO. In his new role, Kelly will be charged with spearheading the strategic direction and operations of properties including The Weather Channel's cable network, available in 99 million homes, as well as The Weather Channel Interactive and weather.com (which boasts 41.5 million monthly unique visitors) and The Weather Channel Mobile, which consistently ranks among the top five most visited mobile websites in the U.S. Kelly led AOL from 2004 to 2007--in addition, he previously served as publisher of Time Warner-owned magazine Entertainment Weekly.
In late June, The Weather Channel appointed [1] Cameron Clayton its new vice president of mobile, replacing longtime mobile VP Louis Gump. And earlier this month, The Weather Channel announced [2] the launch of its new mobile web 3.0 site.
