Verizon Wireless continued its long-running collaboration with alt-rock stalwarts Pearl Jam, announcing a series of exclusive
[1]ringtones previewing songs from the band's forthcoming album Backspacer, due at retail Sept. 20. Verizon's VZW Tones service will offer one new ringtone and ringback each week leading up to the disc's release, with "The Fixer" and "Got Some" available now--"Amongst the Waves" follows on Aug. 6, with eight more ringers scheduled.
Earlier this year, Verizon's V Cast Music with Rhapsody effort launched [2] a series of exclusive full-track downloads, ringtones and ringbacks spotlighting the remastered and expanded edition of Pearl Jam's 1991 debut album Ten, but the collaboration between operator and band dates back to last year, when Verizon offered subscribers exclusive mobile access to live recordings [3] from each date on Pearl Jam's 12-city summer 2008 tour. In addition, in early 2008 Verizon Wireless rolled out an exclusive custom mobile video featuring Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder [4]'s solo effort "Guaranteed," the theme from director Sean Penn's acclaimed feature film Into the Wild.
