Sony is reportedly poised to introduce a wireless ereader device to rival Amazon.com's Kindle. Silicon Alley Insider reports that Sony will hold a press event in New York City on Aug. 25--last week, the electronics giant told the publication "We'll be releasing further information on a wireless device later this summer... Wireless is a great feature and it's something that has really appealed to the early adopters of eReaders [and] we will soon provide a wireless option."
Silicon Alley Insider speculates Sony may also open up on its larger ebook platform plans, including software for mobile phones. Amazon [1] and brick-and-mortar bookseller chain Barnes & Noble [2] are actively pursuing digital book sales on Apple's iPhone platform.
