Gaming firms EA Mobile, Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games announced the mobile
[1]launch of the wildly popular Rock Band franchise via Verizon Wireless, heralding the first time the title has been available on mobile handsets. Rock Band mobile--available for a $3.99 monthly subscription or $9.99 for a one-time use on more than 30 Verizon devices--enables gamers to master either lead guitar, bass, drums or lead vocals across more than 25 songs from artists including Foo Fighters, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Beastie Boys. (Not included? You guessed it--Frank Stallone [2].) The title promises MP3-quality sound and enables gamers to go solo or form a band with friends--players may select "Quick Play" mode or "Tour" mode, earning points as their career progresses from dive bars to sold-out stadiums.
Developed by Harmonix, published by MTV Games and distributed by EA Distribution, Rock Band made its debut on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in late 2007--the franchise has since enjoyed sales close to 8 million units in the U.S.
