AT&T announced an exclusive U.S. agreement with Garmin to launch the GPS solutions provider's nuvifone G60
[1]smartphone on Oct. 4. The nuvifone G60 integrates Garmin's GPS navigator service with voice, data and mobile web features, and comes preloaded with maps and millions of points of interest across North America--customers can also enable turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions that speak street names to millions of destinations. Garmin adds that the device can easily be mounted in their vehicle for users seeking an in-car navigation unit, or detached for portable navigational use.
Marquee attractions on the nuvifone include the "Where am I?" feature, which offers users their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, nearest address, intersection, hospital, police station and gas station with one touch of the screen. The smartphone also boasts a full HTML browser that can be accessed via 3G or WiFi, a touchsceeen virtual keyboard and Garmin's location link, which enables users to navigate to addresses they discover on the web by touching the address. AT&T will sell the G60 for $299 with a two year service agreement after $100 mail-in-rebate--Nuvifone Premium Connected Services (including traffic updates, white pages, weather, movie, local events and fuel price content) are available for $5.99 per month after a 30-day trial.
