Mobile search and display advertising revenues in the U.S. will increase to $4.2 billion in 2015, up from $1 billion in
[1]2010, according to a new forecast issued by technology and media specialist Coda Research Consultancy. Coda projects that search revenues will represent 70 percent of all mobile ad revenues in 2015--by comparison, search is expected to generate about a third of mobile ad earnings next year. Local searches will yield about a third of all search-related mobile ad revenues in 2015.
In terms of carrier revenues, Coda anticipates non-SMS data revenues will increase by a CAGR of 19 percent over 2009 totals to reach $67 billion in 2015--SMS data revenues will increase by a CAGR of 11 percent, to reach $36 billion. Other findings from the Coda forecast: 74 million users will access video via mobile device by 2015, translating to $530 million in subscriptions and $420 million in advertising. Subscribers streaming and downloading mobile music will increase to 41 million in 2015, although music purchases will decline to $660 million. In addition, mobile banking usage (including micropayments) will grow at a CAGR of 40 percent to reach 79 million in 2015.
