Mobile application downloads on cross-platform app store GetJar topped 55 million in October 2009, a 40 million year-over-year increase, the firm reports. Instant messaging client eBuddy tops all GetJar apps to date, generating 27.4 million downloads in all--mobile web browser Opera Mini follows with 25.3 million downloads, trailed by VoIP/IM solution Nimbuzz (21.6 million), social media application Mig33 (15.4 million) and mobile social networking kingpin Facebook (14.4 million).
GetJar applications are now available across more than 1700 handsets. The company also announced the launch of its updated consumer website, promising a more intuitive user interface that automatically indicates applications optimized for each user's device according to their individual phone number.
