Interactive entertainment software firm Electronic Arts' EA Mobile division announced that venerable puzzle game Tetris has surpassed 100 million premium mobile downloads--according to EA Mobile and Blue Planet Software, the firm that manages exclusive licensing rights to the game, Tetris is the first mobile title to surpass the 100 million download benchmark. Created in 1984 by Russian-born mathematician Alexey Pajitnov, Tetris first debuted on mobile in 2001 via Japanese firm G-mode--EA Mobile was named the game's exclusive mobile publisher in 2006, and since that time has extended the title across multiple mobile platforms, including Apple's iPhone.
