Why It's a Top App: 3jam SMS 2.0 expands the scope of text messaging from one-to-one dialogue to multi-party communication, in effect transforming texting from "reply" to "reply all." When a 3jam user sends a message to a group of friends, each recipient knows who else was on the mailing list, and may reply to all or some of them in kind--a subscriber may now reach out to dozens of contacts in roughly the same amount of time previously required to contact just one, keeping networks of family and friends in touch and more efficiently coordinating group activities. It's email and social networking together in one mobile app--and, of course, the more replies that ping back and forth, the more revenue that carriers ring up. In mid-September 3jam signed a deal with youth-targeted MVNO Virgin Mobile USA--a perfect match between application and operator.
