Five mobile social networking services you should get to know

Tools

Mobile social networking continues to win friends and influence people. A new report issued by market research firm In-Stat says so-called "millennials" are spearheading its growth, forecasting that nearly 30 million U.S. millennials will subscribe to mobile social networking services by 2012. According to In-Stat, blogging, photo and video sharing, location-based socialization services, games and messaging will all converge to deliver a complete social networking experience on the handset, but the pieces of the puzzle are still fitting into place. Here are five fledgling mobile social networking services worth watching.

aren't you going to even tell us why? i have to go to each one and check them out thoroughly? that might take a couple days! thanks for the links tho i am always looking for something to do on the phone.

well sorry, i of course didn't click on the links first... cheers

The links on the main page of the article go to my write-ups of each service--click those and you'll find out why I selected them. You'll also find links to the services themselves and, in some cases, video demos you can watch.

I think Nulaz is missing (www.nulaz.com). Their mobile application is the most advanced and user friendly.

Just left a similar message on the Meet Now page and then saw this thread which is probably more appropriate so apologies for the cross-post: I also use mobile.thursdayclub.com which is focussed around bars and nightlife etc.

(it is the mobile cousin - brother? - to www.thursdayclub.com.

As I said before, no particular affiliation, just find it useful).

I'm more of a mobicue fan myself. It's more microblogging, but I like the interface.

www.snapmylife.com is attracting high traffic on mobile phones, and is a mobile social network built on sharing mobile photos from users all round the world - access is from any mobile web browser (and from an iPhone application with location and mapping features).

I'm surprised Mobicue isn't on this list...I've tried a bunch of these services and this one is by far the best in terms of overall usability on the iPhone and Symbian s60 phones.
