Five mobile user interface advances to watch in 2009
Ease of use is now the most important consideration that U.S. consumers weigh when purchasing a new mobile phone, according to a recent study conducted by independent mobile applications portal GetJar. The poll--spanning 1,000 respondents in 130 countries, 75 percent of them male and 79 percent under the age of 25--asked users to rank a list of 10 phone features by order of importance, and 20 percent of U.S. participants cited a phone's user interface as its most important handset feature. User interface was also the number two factor worldwide, cited as the top feature by 17 percent of respondents (trailing behind brand at 28 percent). Here are five user interface innovations poised to reshape the consumer consciousness of tomorrow.

No, that can't be right, ease of use of a mobile phone's user interface being important to a user?
Too bad Nokia didn't think of that back in '95, if they did half the world's population might be using mobile phones by now, rather than just 50% of it.
telecom is a disgrace to its prepaid and contract consumers in NZ... given that god forbid we should have a complaint or fault in the weekends then when contacting the call center we find not only an automated service holdup but the call center itself is based in Manila Phillipines. In fact afta making several calls to 0800323232 and *123 and finally getting a human response to some hardcore questions,I was astounded to find telecom had the audacity to trade one on one customer service in NZ for Slave labor in Manila. I hope the other networks are more patriotic to our own workforce and competetive enough to give telecom a bloody good run for our money. No Wonder Vodafone are reaping the discontent of tcom customers...Telecom!!! remember KARMA comes round...
Although there have been several great advances in Mobile User Interfaces I question the priorities of the designers when raw data entry is not a top priority. If we can text/e-mail at near keyboard speed on our devices we will use them. Simple is best.
