MC Notify - Top Mobile Apps Revisited 2007

Tools

App: MC Notify

Company: Mobile Campus

Year it was a top mobile app: 2007

Why it was a Top Mobile App: Aimed at college students, MC Notify focused on community as well as commerce. Once users opted into its MC Offers service to receive coupons and related pitches from relevant local and national advertisers, they were automatically registered to receive campus text alerts via MC Notify, which immediately and simultaneously warned students, faculty and others in the event of a rescheduled exam, a revised kickoff time or even a campus-wide tragedy. Its current status: The MC Notify application is still in use at about a dozen campuses, including the University of Texas at Dallas and Santa Fe College. This past March though, Mobile Campus launched a new platform and branding based on MC Notify called HookUPFeed. The company is currently working with several hundred businesses including Cold Stone Creamery, Domino's, Tropical Smoothie, Aramark and others on the service. "The model is essentially the same," said Mobile Campus CEO Dave Liniado. "Merchants encourage customers to join their group either via a mobile opt-in, or the customer can join the merchants' group by redeeming an offer online. The back end of the platform provides each merchant with an SMS messaging platform to stay connected with their customers." Liniado said the service has been well received by the business community, and the company will move ahead with a full market rollout in January.
