Why it was a Top Mobile App: Back in 2006, MySpace was still the dominant social networking site. Facebook had yet to truly take off, and Helio's tight integration with MySpace distinguished Helio from other struggling MVNOs. Click here for more.

Its current status: Virgin Mobile USA acquired Helio in the summer of 2008, and though the focus of the company has been on its prepaid business, it still supports postpaid customers and applications such as the MySpace app. The Helio MySpace page currently has over 160,000 "friends," and Virgin Mobile said that as of November 2008, there were between 170,000 and 180,000 customers using the application. Of course, since 2006, Facebook and Twitter have supplanted MySpace as the world's major social networking brands.
