TAT Foldout - Mobile UI Advances 2009
Swedish software technology and design firm TAT's Foldout touchscreen interface upends the conventional UI paradigm, jettisoning traditional menu screens in favor of a more intuitive, visual approach. Foldout lends depth, shading and related physical characteristics to flat elements like widgets and avatars, effectively creating a truly multi-dimensional graphical user interface that appears to shift in concert with user input gestures. Based on the TAT Cascades UI framework and running on the Texas Instruments OMAP3430 platform, Foldout essentially relies on "eyetracking"--i.e., the look of the touchscreen is dependent on the user's visual perspective on the device. Turn the phone in your hand, and the physical orientation of the widgets seems to change as well. Seeing is believing.
