Whrrl - Five mobile social networking services
Although social networking has its roots on college campuses, sooner or later all students enter the workforce, which means social networking must evolve with them. Mobile social discovery service Whrrl's recent expansion onto Research In Motion's BlackBerry device platform bridges the gap between the consumer and enterprise segments, enhancing features like local discovery, mapping and microblogging via the addition of business components like events and calendar features. Whrrl catalogs each individual user's history of places visited and events attended, mapping their behavior with color-coded icons that illustrate whether the experience was positive, neutral or negative--users may share ratings and reviews as well as instantly update their location or status within their circle of contacts, be they business or casual. We think so highly of Whrrl's social networking application that sister publication FierceWireless gave it a 2008 Fierce 15 award.
