ZenZui - Top Mobile Apps Revisited 2007
App: ZenZui
Company: ZenZui
Year it was a top mobile app: 2007
Why it was a Top Mobile App: Based on the company's patented Zooming User Interface, ZenZui's application allowed users to zoom in, out and across a grid of up to 36 tiles, each displaying widget-like, handset-optimized versions of popular websites and services. The app had an open application development environment, could push content to the tiles like an RSS feed, and also had an adaptive rendering platform that made it compatible with a variety of mobile handsets regardless of screen resolution, input hardware and orientation. Its current status: The company re-branded itself as Zumobi in November 2007. In January 2008, the company inked a deal with Microsoft to have its interface distributed with Windows Mobile, and also expanded its presence to Research In Motion's BlackBerry platform. The company won endorsements from media properties such as TODAYshow.com and msnsbc.com, which launched iPhone and iPod touch apps on the Zumobi Network. Zumobi also supports applications--the "Today Show" app and the Sporting News Baseball app--for Palm's webOS App Catalog.
