24MAS snaps up mobile entertainment firm THQ Wireless
Interactive entertainment software publisher THQ Inc. will sell its THQ Wireless unit--the developer behind a series of Star Wars-themed mobile titles--to mobile advertising and application distribution solutions provider 24MAS. Financial terms were not disclosed. 24MAS will purchase THQ's wireless operations and global carrier business; according to THQ, it will continue creating games for the iPhone and other smartphone platforms, relying on 24MAS for distribution across operator platforms. In addition, THQ and 24MAS will partner on extending the publisher's intellectual property to emerging markets.
24MAS's advertising and application hosting services reach subscribers over 80 countries. The firm recently inked ad-funded application campaign deals with Samsung, Olay and Malaysia Airlines.
