A look at mobile music piracy and DRM
Paul Resnikoff over at Digital Music News argues that extra roadblocks to multiplatform interoperability (most DRM solutions) are facilitators of piracy. It's a common argument, but Resnikoff lays it out well as it pertains to mobile music. "Sources of pain" are already appearing within the nascent mobile music sector. Sprint and Verizon Wireless both offer PC-based, companion downloads with mobile music, but neither carrier offers one that is compatible with iTunes. Consumers will not play by the rules in this case and will favor the solution that offers complete flexibility. "Paying for content that carries inferior usage rules is a tough pill for many to swallow."
