ABC launches "Ugly Betty" spinoff via V Cast
The YouTube announcement wasn't the only video news coming out of Verizon Wireless--the carrier also reports a new deal with ABC Entertainment to bring "Vidas de Fuego," the telenovela show-within-a-show seen weekly on the network's breakout primetime hit "Ugly Betty", to its V Cast platform. Beginning Nov. 30, VZW subscribers can view the first of six two-to-four-minute "Vidas de Fuego" chapters on V Cast's ABC Channel, Showcase Channel and Latino Channel; new webisodes will debut on the ABC.com website each Thursday, and premiere on V Cast one week later.
"Ugly Betty" is one of the few true hits of the most recent fall television season, debuting in October to an audience of 16.3 million viewers--the year's most promising series premiere, according to Nielsen Media Research. "'Vidas de Fuego' is a perfect example of how we're utilizing unique content across digital platforms," ABC Entertainment senior vice president of business development Bruce Gersh said in a prepared statement. "Extending this original mini-telenovela online and on mobile offers our loyal fans another way to connect and interact with their favorite ABC program."
