AdMob debuts Download Tracking for iPhone apps

Mobile advertising marketplace AdMob announced the introduction of Download Tracking for iPhone applications, promising advertisers accurate monitoring of App Store conversion rates. Download Tracking for iPhone enables brands to more effectively analyze their returns from advertising on the AdMob network by viewing and tracking multiple applications and breaking down conversion rates by specific ad and for specific dates. According to AdMob, some advertisers have already implemented the tracking solution, translating the resulting information to write better ads, calculate their return on ad spend, tweak their App Info pages and revise their pricing strategies.

AdMob also reports that the iPhone applications already testing the Download Tracking solution have yielded some noteworthy trends--specifically, free apps boast an average conversion rate of 10 percent, compared to the average 1 percent conversion rate for premium applications, while games generally enjoy higher conversion rates than other categories, experiencing as much as a 100 percent improvement over non-game applications at similar price points. As of December 2008, the AdMob network spans across more than 8.4 million unique iPhones and iPod Touch devices worldwide.
