AdMob launches new advertising units for iPhone
Mobile advertising marketplace AdMob announced the introduction of new social networking, search and rich media ad units for the iPhone in conjunction with the upcoming release of the iPhone 3.0 operating system. AdMob's new Mobile Social Networking ad unit promises to connect consumers with the advertiser's social content across networks including Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Digg, MySpace, Flickr and LinkedIn--in addition, new search solutions enable users to type a query directly into an ad unit. AdMob will also introduce a new Multi-Panel Banner solution that delivers multiple calls to action within a single rich-media ad unit, as well as a Scrolling Canvas option that offers more in-depth information without requiring users to click away from a site or application. On June 5, AdMob will debut an updated version of its iPhone software development kit to enable the new advertising units as well as dynamic ad updates.
AdMob launched its global iPhone 3G ad marketplace in July 2008--the firm notes that its advertisements now monetize more than 1,500 iPhone applications, including BrainTeaser, SportsTap, and Tap Tap Revenge II, and reach more than half of all iPhone and iPod touch devices. Last month, AdMob reported the iPhone generated 20 percent of its total U.S. ad requests in April, and the iPhone and iPod touch together accounted for 26.2 percent of total worldwide ad requests.
