Alltel launches Spinvox voice-to-text service

Last August, Alltel announced its plans to deploy Spinvox's voice-to-text service in fourth quarter 2007, and the carrier is making good on that promise. The service is available in a variety of pricing packages: For $19.99 per month subscribers get 100 voicemail conversions with each additional conversion costing 10 cents each. For $9.99 per month, subscribers get 50 voicemail conversions with each additional conversion costing 20 cents. And for $4.99 per month, subscribers get 20 voicemail conversions with each additional conversion costing 25 cents.

According to Craig Kirkland, director of messaging and voice services at Alltel, the carrier believes that the Spinvox service will drive more data usage and will increase the likelihood that subscribers will use text messaging. "This is a very good service. It's extremely accurate," Kirkland said in an interview with FierceMobileContent. "Our trials of the service indicate it's a very sticky service, and lots of people want to add it to their service plan." -Sue
