Alltel teams with mFoundry for mobile banking
Alltel Wireless announced an agreement with mFoundry to introduce the Alltel Wallet, a new solution that leverages the mobile applications provider's extensible mobile wallet platform to offer subscribers access to consolidated mobile banking services supported by a variety of U.S. financial institutions. mFoundry's platform, based on the Mojax framework, combines mobile banking, mobile payments and mobile commerce capabilities--in addition, the platform boasts pre-built modules for peer-to-peer remittances and other payment services, enabling third-party developers to efficiently deploy new Alltel Wallet features.
Alltel will formally debut Alltel Wallet in early 2009. Of course, Verizon Wireless remains on track to acquire the operator for $28.1 billion--in November, the FCC ruled to approve the deal, which will create the nation's largest wireless operator. In mid-2007, Verizon teamed with mFoundry to launch its own mobile banking and financial services solution.
