Amazon Appstore for Android developer partners may now submit promotional images to call attention to their applications and games.

Amazon began accepting promotional images Thursday, indicating its marketing team will use the materials in featured placements and related promotional opportunities designed to highlight Appstore for Android submissions. "We recommend that you strive for an engaging image that speaks to what your app is all about," reads a post on the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Blog. "Make your image colorful to catch the eye of customers, and choose imagery that promotes the essence of your app and brand. Text on your promotional image should be large, simple, and readable. Do not add the price to the image ($0.99) or any discount call outs (50 percent off)."

Developers can create new images or use existing content sized at 1024 x 500 pixels. All files should be in PNG or JPG format. Developers may submit images via the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Portal.

Android developers consistently generate substantially greater revenues per user in the Amazon Appstore than in the rival Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Play storefront, according to data published earlier this year by app store analytics firm Flurry. For every $1 yielded by Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) pacesetting App Store for iOS, Amazon Appstore drives an average of $0.89 per user, while Google Play earns developers just $0.23 per user, Flurry reports. The company credits Amazon Appstore's success to the company's digital retail expertise, noting Google's strengths are its search tools and advertising technologies.
