Amazon Deals app launches on iPhone

Tools

Online retail giant Amazon.com introduced Amazon Deals, a free iPhone application promising on-the-go access to daily offers in conjunction with the company's ongoing Gold Box discount program. Amazon Deals will include Amazon's Deal of the Day as well as limited-time Lightning Deals featured on the Gold Box page--additional features include reminders and category-specific notifications alongside customer reviews, product information and sharing via e-mail, Twitter and Facebook.

Amazon Deals joins existing iPhone applications like Amazon Price Check, introduced late last year. A free comparison shopping tool enabling iPhone users to contrast in-store product prices with items available online, Price Check gives consumers the option to scan a barcode, snap a photo or speak or type a product name to instantly receive prices for that item from Amazon and other online merchants--the app displays prices sorted from lowest to highest, incorporating Amazon shipping discounts when available, and presents a secure, one-click purchase option.

Mobile commerce is emerging as a significant component of Amazon's bottom line. In mid-2010, the retailer reported that consumers worldwide ordered more than $1 billion in products via mobile device over the last 12 months.
