Amazon policy change torpedoes iPhone app

Tools

Developer Delicious Monster said it was forced to remove its Delicious Library 2 media cataloging application from Apple's App Store following a recent Amazon.com policy change. Delicious Monster CEO Wil Shipley wrote on Twitter that he was compelled to remove the application due to Amazon's contract governing the use of its Product Advertising API--specifically, section 4e of the contract, which states "You will not, without our express prior written approval, use any Product Advertising Content on or in connection with any site or application designed or intended for use with a mobile phone or other handheld device."

Delicious Library for iPhone and iPod touch, a companion to Delicious Library 2 for Mac, enables users to remotely view their books, DVDs, CDs, software, video games, gadgets and toys. Because the application pulls product data from sources like Amazon.com, Shipley attempted to reach out to the online retail giant in hopes it would make an exception: "[Amazon] told me to remove it today, or they'd shut me down," Shipley tweeted.
