Amazon revamps Kindle app for Android
Online retail giant Amazon.com introduced an updated version of its free Kindle ereader application for Android smartphones, touting a series of enhancements including new search tools. Users can now search the complete contents of Kindle titles via voice or text, look up words or phrases in Wikipedia, view book details on reader-focused social networking site Shelfari, all within the Android app--in addition, consumers can add notes and highlights to books, with automatic synchronization across Kindle-enabled devices, and lock down screen orientation in landscape or portrait mode.
Amazon.com released the first edition of its Android app this summer, offering consumers access to over 700,000 titles including New York Times bestsellers, classics and new releases. Like previous Kindle apps for smartphone platforms like iPhone and BlackBerry, Kindle for Android boasts Amazon's Whispersync technology, which saves and synchronizes books and periodicals across multiple devices.
