Amobee, Funambol team on ad-funded email
Mobile messaging software provider Funambol and mobile advertising solutions provider Amobee Media Systems together announced an ad-based mobile email solution that promises to generate operator revenue by shifting content subsidization from mobile users to advertisers. According to Amobee and Funambol, the solution integrates the former's Handset Application Programming Interface with the latter's Java ME push email client, displaying ads from Amobee's media partners. The Amobee Media Network ensures the ads and brands displayed in users' mobile email adhere to the editorial control and production standards of operators and service providers that deploy the solution.
"Research indicates that many more people would use mobile email if it were more affordable and it worked on their existing phones. The Amobee Funambol solution accomplishes just that," said Amobee CEO Zohar Levkovitz in a prepared statement. "We are excited to work with Funambol as their solution is gaining major traction with mobile operators and service providers around the world. The combination of Amobee and Funambol represents the first to market end-to-end telco grade ad-based open source mobile e-mail solution for the mass market."
