Amp'd inks development deal with Jack Black
Amp'd Mobile announced a series of content development deals pairing the MVNO with Hollywood big shots including actor/comedian Jack Black and "24" executive producer Howard Gordon. Black and production partners Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab will develop comedic shorts based on their monthly Channel 101 events, which spotlight amateur short film series submitted for audience voting--Amp'd will similarly enable subscribers to cast ballots determining which productions face cancellation and which return for future episodes. Also launching is Gordon's "Paranormal News," an investigative series that examines mysterious events and sightings complete with analysis from NASA researchers, meteorologists and related experts.
Amp'd will additionally extend its partnership with writer/producer Donick Cary, whose animated series "Lil' Bush: Resident of the United States" will jump from the MVNO to the Comedy Central primetime lineup this summer. Cary's next Amp'd animated series, "Lil' Hollywood," will feature TV personality Carson Daly; the producer will also develop the live-action "Mexican Crazy Show." "I'm thrilled Amp'd is letting me create a new cell phone series in 2007," Cary said in a prepared statement. "If I can get one kid kicked out of school for watching TV in class, then I've done my part."
