AOL launches Play social music service on Android
AOL unveiled Play, a new music sharing and discovery application targeting Android devices. Available for download from Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market, Play by AOL Music enables users to stream tracks from digital music service Rdio--content can be shared with other users across Facebook and Twitter, giving full-track access to Rdio subscribers and 30-second previews to non-subscribers. Play by AOL also features Spinner's free MP3 of the Day as well as full-length album previews culled from AOL's CD Listening Party feature. Users can follow contacts and share their current playlist via real-time feed--Play by AOL also enables listeners to comment on their friends' posts and sends notifications when someone comments on one of their posts.
TechCrunch notes AOL will expand the Play service to the iPhone platform within the next few weeks.
