AOL names Yahoo vet Garlinghouse to lead web, mobile
AOL named Brad Garlinghouse as President of Internet and Mobile Communications as the web services giant looks to expand the reach of its email and instant messaging efforts. Garlinghouse will assume an expanded leadership position for the company, heading up its Silicon Valley operations and serving as the West Coast lead for its AOL Ventures investment arm. Garlinghouse will report directly to AOL chairman and CEO Tim Armstrong.
Garlinghouse joins AOL after a stint with venture firm Silver Lake Partners--he remains best known for a six-year stint at Yahoo, where he served as SVP of Communications and Communities and oversaw its Flickr photo-sharing service and Yahoo Groups. Prior to Yahoo, Garlinghouse was CEO of VoIP firm Dialpad.com, acquired by Yahoo in mid-2005.
