Tools

The Associated Press reports wireless subscribers have read more than 55 million local stories on AP Mobile in the 12 months since the news portal's May 2008 launch, with iPhone and BlackBerry users both averaging seven page views per visit. According to the AP, users spend 17 minutes per month interacting with its mobile applications and apnews.com website; more than half of AP Mobile news accessed falls in the content category of Top Stories, followed by Local News (21 percent), Entertainment (9 percent) and Sports (7 percent). The news organization adds AP member participation increased 887 percent in the past year--107 member news organizations signed up to participate in AP Mobile at launch, and that number now stands at more than 1,000.

Sixty-three percent of AP Mobile users are between the ages of 18 and 34; 53 percent of users earn more than $75,000 per year, 80 percent are employed and more than half boast bachelors or advanced degrees. Men represent 78 percent of traffic to all subject categories, rising to 82 percent for sports.
