Apple issues iOS 4.3.4 security update for PDF vulnerability
In response to last week's security vulnerability discovered by the German government, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) issued an update for iOS devices geared toward protecting users from possible security breaches.
The update, iOS 4.3.4, provides a buffer against attacks in case a user opens a "maliciously crafted PDF file," Apple said. The buffer prevents the threat from gaining control of the device and stealing secure information by running programs without the user's permission.
Last week, Germany's Federal Office for Information Security issued a warning about the security vulnerability, which it said could be utilized to steal passwords, financial information and location-based information. Apple acknowledged the issue and promised a fix.
Apple's iOS 4.3.3 is available for third-generation iPod touches running iOS 3.1 or higher, the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 running iOS3 or higher and iPads running iOS 3.2 or higher.
